Belize – Cancun to Orange Walk

Cancun to Belize
In Cancun airport, find the ADO sign (bus company), and take the bus to Downtown Cancun: 78 pesos
From the ADO station in Cancun, take a bus to Chetumal: 439 pesos. 6 hours.
After a night in Chetumal, head to Estacion Vieja. The first bus leaves at 10.30 and is in Orange Walk at 12.00. It is a pink school bus that parks in the corner furthest away from the shops . The trip cost 100 pesos. Just ask people on the bus for help, and they will help you with bags and directions. There is a direct ado from Cancun to Orange Walk, but I recommend you get to Orange Walk before sunset.
You pay 30 US dollars to exist in Mexico, and you fill in forms and have your luggage checked at the Belizean border.
There is not much to do in Orange Walk, and besides myself, there is currently one other tourist. I recommend a river trip to Lamanai.

It took about an hour by boat to get from Orange Walk to Lamanai. New River is tranquil and has rich animal life.

The beautiful Lamanai Ruins. If you want to escape tourist crowds, this is your chance. The ruins are in a thick jungle on the bank of New River, and I go to see howler monkeys and a crocodile baby. We ate fresh coco plum, that we picked from the boat. The crocodiles get up to 4 meters!

A sad story
When the government began excavations, they hired locals to help. When the site became a national park, locals were relocated by force to a town far away. One lady protested and asked UNICEF for help. Half of the citizens stayed.
